BLU.E-Mobility
in the PORT OF KIEL.
In the port, the expansion of e-mobility is continuing both internally and externally. Green electricity is the most readily available and comparatively inexpensive. Other types of drive will be added in the medium term. As a port with regional and international cargo handling and passenger traffic, we are always looking beyond our own port fence - for example, when it comes to developments in supplier traffic and travellers.
A key question we ask ourselves is: What can be changed on the port site to reduce CO2 emissions to almost zero? Our own cars and handling vehicles are increasingly being converted to electric drives, and we will also see more and more electric lorries on the roads in the coming years. Goods are regularly shipped from Kiel to destinations within Germany and across Europe via our intermodal terminals. With these measures, we are actively contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions and sending a strong signal for a sustainable future in port logistics.
E.Mobile-Fleet
Our own car fleet is now almost completely electric and electric vehicles are also becoming increasingly popular in the private sector. And so, in addition to our own pool vehicle charging points, we will be setting up public charging points at various locations.
Tractor units
We are in talks with several manufacturers in order to switch over as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the conversion of our RoRo tractor units for ship loading and unloading to lower-emission drives has not yet progressed that far.
E.forklifts
We are converting our forklift truck fleet step by step. This is even increasing efficiency, as one electric forklift replaces 1.5 diesel forklifts, as they require less maintenance and have a shorter service life.
E.lorries
By 2030, every second lorry sold will have an electric drive. We are already preparing for this today with a fast-charging infrastructure at our port terminals so that electric lorries can be charged during their relatively short downtime.
Intermodal transport
Trailers, swap bodies and containers are regularly loaded to and from destinations within Germany and throughout Europe via our intermodal transport terminals in Kiel. We would like to promote additional rail connections in order to direct as much traffic as possible to the environmentally friendly rail mode of transport.
E.Aviation
The airport of the future must be one thing above all: sustainable. We are currently setting the course to generate so much electricity using large-scale PV systems at AIRPORT KIEL, which has been part of the PORT OF KIEL Group since 2012, that we can supply electric aircraft ourselves via a corresponding charging infrastructure.
