On 9th December 2022, three C-160 Transall aircraft were transferred from the German Air Force's military airfield in Hohn to Kiel Airport. The last three German airworthy aircraft of this type, of which prototypes were already built in 1963, were acquired by the Australian aviation company Wieland Aviation and are to be converted in Kiel over the next six months so that they are capable of visual and instrument flight. The aircraft will then be used for firefighting in Australia.
